Reservation of Fancy Registration Numbers

Reservation of fancy registration number will be made for the registration of a new motor vehicle under Section 39 of the Act or for the assignment of a fresh registration mark under Section 47 of the Act, on application made by the proposed purchaser or owner of the vehicle, as the case may be.

An application for reservation of a particular fancy number will be accompanied by a fee of Rs.2000/-. If more applications than one are received on the same day for a particular registration number, the number shall be allotted to the highest bidder in an auction to be conducted in the manner laid down by the Transport Commissioner.

Reservation of a particular registration number shall be within the range of 250 numbers immediately following the last number registered in serial order.

The highest bidder shall pay the bid amount less the fee for reservation already paid immediately after confirmation of the action in his favour.

The application fee paid by the unsuccessful applicants will be refunded.

In case the highest bidder fails to pay the bid amount the number will not be allotted to him and the application fee paid by him will be forfeited and the number will be allotted to the next highest bidder from among the remaining bidders who pays the bid amount.


List of Fancy Numbers

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub- rule (2) of Rule 95 of the KMV Rules, 1989 , the Transport Commissioner, Kerala has notified the following numbers in all series as FANCY NUMBRS to be allotted by advance reservation under Sub rule (1) .

The number reserved shall be allotted on production of the vehicle along with the application in Form 20 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 and when the vehicle is found complying with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the rules made thereunder for registration. The reservation shall cease to have effect and the reservation fee or the bid amount, will be forfeited, if the vehicle is not produced within a period of 3 months from the date of reservation of the number.


State Codes for Registration Mark

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub section(6) of Section 41 of the Motor Vehicles Act,1988 (59 of 1988), the Central Government has allotted to the States and Union Territories specified in column(1) of the Table below, the groups of letters specified in the corresponding entry in column(2) thereof. for use as registration mark for each State and Union Territory to be followed by the code number of the Registering Authority to be allotted by the State Government or as the case may by the Administrator of the Union Territory and not exceeding four figures, to be used as registration mark.

Where the four figures referred to in paragraph 1 reaches 9999, the next series shall begin with alphabet 'A' followed by not more than four figures and thereafter with alphabet
'B' followed by not more than four figures and so on until all the alphabets excluding
'I' and 'O' are exhausted:

Provided that the letters shall be in English and the figures shall be in Arabic numeral and the letters and figures shall be painted in reflecting colours and shall be shown:

a.in the case of transport vehicles other than those under the Rent a Cab Scheme, 1989, in black letters and numerals in yellow back ground;
b.in the case of motor vehicles temporarily registered, in red on a yellow back ground;
c.in the case of motor vehicles in the possession of dealers, in white letters and figures on a red back ground;
d.in other cases, in black letters and numerals on a white back ground;
e.in the case of transport vehicle under the Rent a Cab Scheme, 1989, in yellow letters and numerals on a black back ground.
